He's seen it at every level of sport — from the
so-called "Malice at the Palace" to a football field
attack on a friend's 15-year-old son by an opponent's
father right in their hometown of Framingham, Mass.

The
Magic got booed at home after losing in the playoffs
to the Pistons. Dolphins Coach Cam Cameron thought
he would be a nice guy and address fans at a draft
party, only to hear "BOOOOOOOOOOO!" because

Buy one ticket,
get the license to misbehave free. Or so a

Oh, behave!

ruined sporting events. Some fans have
had enough; they say it's time to stand
up and cheer for public civility.

BOSTON
-- Nostalgia
and happy memories will suffuse Fenway Park
today as the "Impossible Dream" team
of 1967 is saluted at the Red Sox home opener.
If all goes well on the field, most of the
Fenway crowd will leave with good memories
of today's game, too. But inevitably there
will be some disheartened spectators who think
back instead on that loud, cursing drunk in
the seat behind them, or that pinhead in front
who didn't understand the difference between
rooting and ranting. Crude fan behavior has become
an increasingly prominent feature
feature of the contemporary sports experience, and
it doesn't matter whether you're talking about baseball,
football, basketball, soccer, or hockey. READ
